Research Highlight: Organelle and cellular abnormalities associated with hippocampal heterotopia in neonatal doublecortin knockout mice
The ENP team led by Fiona Francis has revealed new information about aberrant cell organization in the brain and its link to epilepsy in a mouse model predisposed to spontaneous seizures. They found that the pyramidal neurons in Dcx knockout mice had abnormal cell organization, cytoplasm content, nuclei, mitochondria, Golgi complexes, and morphology. Additionally, these Dcx KO mice also had more oligodendrocyte precursor cells and interneurons associated with the pyramidal cells.
